MYOL

Decided to finally attend an event that involves our batch. Bout time. Managed to get 7 of us to head to Roper Hall for a Halloween mess party, which included free drinks for bout an hour. Free Jack Daniels and coke, free Malibu and pineapple juice and free tequila shots! I ordered another JD shot and Malibu later on as well haha.

But only stayed for an hour or so before we left -_- only managed to mingle with the people for a short while. Sad. But I am not going to comment on anything because apparently some people are SO sensitive bout certain issues on my blog. Sad.

Anyway. Steering away from issues. Pictures then.

Last picture is a questionable one haha. Niha niha =p

on stream..

DAMN DAMN DAMN.

Watched the starting 10 mins just before dinner. Questionable choice that.

On the other hand, Halloween mess party is on tonight! FREE drinks from 8 to 10pm! Not dressing up though, those days are over -_-

ups n downs

Sigh. Now I'm starting to be depressed. No idea why. The haunting empty feeling creeping and seeping its way into my veins. Bitch. Games, music and movies just don't have that cheering up effect anymore. Come on Family Guy why are you taking so long to release the new episodes?! Watching it straight from Season 1 to 7 can be quite helpful.

Quite the happy guy earlier though during my GP attachment. Managed to point out fibromyalgia in a patient who has chronic fatigue syndrome. Lol partly a good guess I suppose didn't even do the diagnostic 18-point test thing. And though the GP said it might just be a psychological condition in this patient. O well take what you are given I suppose.

But got reprimanded by another GP the other day for not knowing the haemodynamics of the heart in aortic stenosis. Zzzzz. Shit have to read up more on the conditions that are more common over here, like what Dr Annie Tay said -_- No idea on multiple sclerosis, cystic fibrosis, Huntington's and the other autoimmunes.

Still hate pharmacology. All the side effects and shit. All the GPs here are lucky they use computers to take history and all the patient's previous case notes are stored on the computer. I guess they have to as the GPs here operate differently - they don't just treat cough and cold lol. More like an outpatients dept. When the drugs are going to be prescribed, if there are any side effects with other drugs, it will show on the screen. Malaysia should really up their tech.

moviemania

This is absolutely hilarious! It's a new movie as well with an all-star cast well worth downloading and watching. LOVE IT!

boom

Watch this movie. Found it pretty cool. Dom agrees lol. I mean come on Ving Rhames and Kelly Hu are in it! Plus there is an alcoholic Catholic Father in it as well. What more can one ask for in a movie?
Or if the above poster is too B-grade then maybe the one below might help whet your appetite.

for I am bored

Slowly beginning to do my portfolio. And also beginning to study. Wow so many shocks in one go hope no one gets an infarction.

Damn writing C.V sucks. Big Time.

eternal springs

Sometimes the thought of growing up is scary. Just imagine the life of a doctor before becoming a GP and living the (easier) life. In the hospital almost everyday. Being on call. Having to look after so many patients and be responsible for their lives. But before that having to sit for exams after exams after exams and do all the ward rounds which I already am lazy to do. Sigh. Sometimes I wonder if this is the life that I want in front of me.

Whatever happened to the easy life? Do as you like, come and go as you like. I want to be stronger, stronger to withstand all that lies ahead. For I know it's gonna be a long long ride. Even now itself life here is getting more difficult. Coping with weather for one. It's fine we can all stand the cold. There is just a problem of drying clothes. See, little things like this just shows how different life is now compared to Vista, where we can wash anytime and dry any day no matter the time of the year. Of course not to forget food. Cooking is fine don't get me wrong, after all I help my mum a lot in Brunei anyway. Just that the convenience of taking away from the roadside stalls is gone. All part of growing up I suppose. Which sucks. Just wanna lay in bed and play games the whole day haha. What a fulfilling life eh.

On a cheerier note, bought my flight back to KL already. 16th Dec. Pray all goes to plan, I'm sure it will. Can't wait to see the bee already; it has been ages! Christmas and (a few minutes/hour) of new year 2010 here we come!! :)

Haven't read literature in a disgustingly long time. Feel so culture-deprived. Weird, I know, but it's true. The last book I read was Dan Brown's Lost Symbol but you can't be that desperate to call that literature. I think I'll buy the P.G Woodhouse collection. But my hands are already full thanks to this. SIGH. Life is too good.

And there is also one for children. Bless.

instead of

Ahh. Watching Youtube and got reminded of the good old days of football rivalry between ManUtd and Arsenal.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhP9xAl4xng&feature=related

Now couldn't even be bothered about Arsenal anymore. Team full of kids. And with all the strict rules and refs and all making the game so clean and dull. Missing Roy Keane as well I suppose. Now with all the rules you can't dive, can't tackle from behind, can't tackle with both feet off the ground, blablabla. Search the videos on Youtube yourself for horror tackles or something. More interesting than doing PBL. Which is what I am supposed to be doing.

Much to be corny about

Lol. So this is a rather old video taken a few months back with the girlfriend :) Decided to do some editing to it and it turned out pretty good hehe. Excuse the song choice I was just testing out the effects. Honest.

I love you :)

no balls or?

Damn lame. Poker without cash wtf. Bet using alcohol instead which was fun as well but still. POUNDS!! Haha but seeing Teong Rhen high and crazy and Kheng Xiong (finally!) drinking a bottle and more and getting high as well was worth it lol.

I am not high by the way just to be clear -_-

Stephen and Ek Guan you are needed here urgently. Poker chips are waiting for you.

reality

I guess there are some things in life you cannot run from. No matter how you try to hide and cower behind curtains and lies. Which is why Dom and I got a....poker set!! :D

Got it from Argos. 13pounds isn't that expensive if you compare it to Malaysia. And got the free demo code for L4D 2 as well woooooo!

Haha Fong Zhiven we are all ready and waiting for you over here.

All for you

The winters mark the Earth
It's floor was frozen glass
You slip into my arms
And you quickly correct yourself

Your freezing speech bubbles
Seem to hold your words aloft
I want the smoky clouds of laughter
To swim about me forever more

I will race you to the waterside
And from the edge I'll shout out loud
So you could hear it wherever you are
It's all for you

The shells crack under our shoes
Like punctuation points
The planets bend between us
A hundred million suns and stars

The sea filled in this silence
Before you sank those words
And now even in the darkness
I can see how happy you are

EU ban limiting junior doctors to 48-hour working week lifted over public health concerns

European rules insisting junior doctors work only a 48-hour week have been lifted for at least 50 hospitals.

Britain has been granted a temporary reprieve after health chiefs claimed the EU Working Time Directive might put patient safety at risk.

Doctors at 38 trusts which have been granted permission to derogate from the rules will be allowed to work 52 hours a week averaged over six months until 2011.

The extra hours will only apply to certain specialties such as obstetrics and paediatrics at the hospitals involved, not all junior doctors working there.

The Royal College of Surgeons earlier this week argued that the 48-hour week was interfering with patient care in the NHS, and might be putting patients at risk.

Two thirds of the 900 NHS surgeons surveyed said quality of care had become worse since the introduction of the new working week, while most said doctors were being forced to break the rules to protect patients.

Under the old system, junior hospital doctors would often work 80-hour weeks - which doctors' leaders claimed also endangered patients because they were being treated by tired medics.

In August rules were imposed limiting their working week to 48 hours.

National Clinical Advisor for European Working Time Directive Dr Wendy Reid said most doctors' rotas in NHS hospitals were already complying with the 48-hour week rule.

But she acknowledged that others could not safely cut back hours at present.

She said: 'I am pleased that the overwhelming majority of UK doctors in training are compliant with the working time directive as we know that this will improve patient safety and their work life balance.

'People will remember the stories of junior doctors working 80-hour week and it is great news that these days are gone.

'Patient safety is our top priority in the NHS. We have always said that we would keep the situation under close review and where there is a genuine need for extra time to safely implement the directive we would allow derogation.

'A very small number of services have made this request in order to effectively implement plans and be able to sustain them by 2011.

'The UK remains absolutely committed to enabling all junior doctors to work and train safely, in compliance with the working time directive.'

Dr Shree Datta, chairman of the British Medical Association's Junior Doctors Committee, said: 'We recognise the need for pragmatism in cases where the safe delivery of patient care cannot be guaranteed within a 48-hour week.

'However, there is an urgent need to rethink how junior doctors work and train.

'This is not a new EU rule suddenly imposed on the NHS this year. Trusts have known the Working Time Directive was coming for over ten years, and it is worrying to find that some are so poorly prepared.

'The crux of the matter is that hospitals must work with doctors to find solutions which avoid disruption to patient services, and maintain the quality of training.'

routine

Pffft. Another day of PBLs. Thank God my group is good plus my facilitator is this ST1 and she is working as a GP now and she is pretty laid back. Parents from HK lol. But no slang cuz she was born here in UK. I would say....mid 20s?

Anywho, doing CVS all over again. And again. So annoying. We are supposed to be on HLB (heart lungs & blood) but all the cases in the A&E are either MSK or minor cuts. Stupid. Plus we had a 2-hour session this morning on CNS (?!!!) so yea.

Been busy scanning Ebay and Amazon lately for cheap stuff. My phone silicon case arrived so that's good. Only 2pounds compared to Dom's 20-pound one?? Lol. Gonna buy 120mm films for the Diana F+ camera as well. Since only black&whites are available at the moment in camera shops in Manchester.

Ah well. Dinner time.

this is it

http://www.michaeljackson.com/uk/node/326415

The new song. Album coming out on the 26th of October. Funny how people get shot to Godlike status only after their death. Singers, composers, artists....but I guess this is how the human race is. Not appreciating what they have till it's gone.
Stephen Gately of Boyzone just died?! Wow. Just 33 years old as well...condolences to him.

role-play

Call me weird but I miss the fun (and not so fun) parts of IMU Cup. Wonder if they have the Manchester Games over here, but I'm in Preston anyway so what the hell. Looking through photos of the IMU Cup '09 cuz I'm bored and I've been doing nothing this whole Sunday except for eating and watching movies and playing games and more eating. Didn't even go for futsal today. All the drama and controversy of the IMU Cup. Sweet. And the infamous M107 batch. Even the seniors over here know about our batch and the rather colourful people lol.

So with the weekends drawing to a close, I'm staring at another week of night shifts at the Emergency Dept. Why do the interesting cases happen when I'm not around? .............yea I typed a paragraph there before deciding that I shouldn't discuss cases. Confidentiality issues and what-nots.

Anywho just miss KL quite alot. Life in Msia (though with much slower internet zzz) was better in a sense of, well, belonging, gf and fooooooddddd. Suddenly having the huge urge to eat mamak food and rot. Oh and playing poker too haha. Imagine winning 100 POUNDS instead of RM100. Problem is not enough people over that who will want to play with cash plus it is quite a pain in the gluteus to walk from one house to another at night.

Scene in Vista:

A: Friend, wanna poker or not wor?
B: Like that ah. Your place is it?
A: My place lor, where else? My place got more people here already mah don't need go far far.
B: Sien. Ok la I bring RM50 to throw can? Give me 5 minute I take the lift. I put on my T-shirt I go straight.

Scene in Preston:

A: Hey wanna play poker or not?
B: Hmm. No money la, RM convert to pounds can die wei.
A: Aiyoh just play with pennies la! I very the sien.
B: Your house so far away though.
A: WTF it is just 5 minutes away!
B: Dude need to walk in the 3-degree weather ok. Need to put on my vest, and my sweater, and my windbreaker, and my long pants, then wear gloves, then wear scarf, then wear socks and then wear shoes. Then go your house need take off shoes, take off socks, take off scarf, take off gloves, take off sweater, take off windbreaker I tired liao lor. Sien.

So there you have it. Problems faced. Though it will be nice just to buy a packet of cards first over here haha.

the itch

Spent the Saturday in Manchester, and spent 120pounds on, as the gf called it, necessities lol. Thermal wear and new jeans and the films for the gf's Diana F+ :) Wanted to get sneakers and sweater/windbreaker as well but then remembered about the air ticket. And remembered about the games that I'm planning to buy. Fruck.

And the electricity bill just came and it is 33pounds.

And we decided to upgrade our broadband to the highest package possible cuz its just a tad more and we wouldn't be affected by peak-hour limits. Coolness. Just streamed HIMYM Season 5, saves me the trouble of downloading series and taking up space on my harddisk.

Ahh how nice if flights from UK to Msia just takes 2 or 3 hours...I'll probably fly there every weekend heh.

the only exception

Ahh interesting news. My housemate gayboy Dom has restarted his blogging life lol. Due to boredom and the fact that medical students are so free they just literally freeze at home. Don't understand why some of my batchmates already saying that they don't have time to study or do PBL. Study? Seriously??

Go view his blog to see him rant bout PBL haha.

Weekends are coming again. Perfectly timed as well. Might be making a trip down to Manchester. Weather is getting cold now. Highs of 13 deg celsius and lows of 2. Brrr. Take in account the winds blowing right in your face as well and you will get probably 0 or lower. Ah what fun. Or so the IMU people think. It ain't fun man. PBLs here are worse than over there. Emergency dept is not as glamorous as you think as well.

Speaking of studying...have not touched anything except for my 1st PBL on I.E and cardiac failure. Other than that just playing games, watching movies and streaming series, thinking of what to cook for lunch and dinner like a housewife and last but definitely not least, Skyping with the baby :) Haha my mum was so cool bout it as well when she asked me over the phone if I missed my gf, and reminding me to call her (gf, not mum) as well. Way ahead of ya mum hee.

Mon cœur s'ouvre à ta voix

Back to PBL again. Sigh. And the weekend passed so damn fast. Like Teong Rhen said, weekends are becoming so valuable now, unlike IMU, when everyday was a Sunday.

PBL is a bitch. And Manchester is super PBL-pro, I think they are one of the PBL pioneers. Just my luck eh. Thank goodness for IMU notes that Dom brought over from KL, and luckily I just bought a 3-in-1 printer, so just photocopy and voila! PBL done. Lol. Well not really, cuz apparently people here don't bring notes or books into PBL sessions, so still need to read and memorize all the shitty patho and drugs of heart failure, infective endocarditis blablabla. Yes I am doing CVS, Respi and Haemato all over again. Hello Sem2/3.

Paramore's new album brand new eyes is sweeeeetttt. I think it is much better than Muse this time around. Whether you are a fan of rock, or Paramore, or neither, it still is a must buy. Or download, whichever. Nice tunes plus the lyrics are meaningful as well not to mention Hayley William's monster voice.

Oh and Happy 7 Months my hunnybear *hugs I love you tonnes!

Let's drive into the distance and never look back :)

Now where can I siphon 1200pounds to fund my air tickets to and from KL.

October rules

Choices choices. I think I'll go for PES 2010. PES has been my fav since 2003, so no turning back now I suppose. Just counting down the days to the release woohoo. And of course the most anticipated game of the year for me has to be.....

Ohhh yea. PBL and ward rounds....what?
