Not just another statistic

Death. A tragic terrible thing. Somehow being in this generation of TV and the internet where violence rule, death has been tremendously underrated. In a bad way. One of my mum's customer, who is also a good friend, just suddenly died this morning.

He was not the prettiest sight - shabby clothes, a beer belly, a slightly deformed left leg, protruding jaw - but his grocery shop was one of the busiest I have seen in Brunei. Even though located a little out of the way from the normal main roads, many people rich or poor, young or old, would be there buying groceries. And oh did he stock tonnes of items. You name it he got it. Hardware tools, food and drinks, fertilisers and (sometimes) illegal chemicals, fireworks, children toys - I could go on forever. I will know, many a time I would drive my mum there to send goods or to collect payment. He was a kind soul, making payments on time, giving us the occasional free drink or fresh fruits and also sometimes allowing suppliers to use his storage area if ours was full.

Sadly he passed away not knowing the joy (and pain heh) of marriage, and also the joy (and more pain) of having kids. He was in his early 40's I think, otherwise healthy and in great spirits everytime. He was rather sick for the past month but doctors were not able to find anything wrong with him. He lost appetite and taste for food, but was recovering since last week before the incident happened. The last time my mum saw him was yesterday, and she told him to stop drinking so much Coke cuz he has yet to fully recover. That was the last thing she said to him.

Isn't it unfair how the good souls on Earth keep dying while the bastards live on? And how come all the doctors missed the signs?! They couldn't diagnose him with anything. That's pretty terrible considering that he had quite many symptoms already. Guess we have to live our lives to the fullest, and say whatever we want to say because you never know what tomorrow will bring.

If the good didn't die young and the bastards didn't live long, the world wouldn't be the shit hole it is today would it?

Ah, I'm such a misanthrope.

My condolences.
